PRO-POOR FINTECH AND INNOVATIONS IN
DIGITAL FINANCIAL SERVICES

About half of the population of Bangladesh is excluded from financial services like savings and credit.

The heavy reliance on cash leaves the poor vulnerable to many risks and makes it harder to cope with
unexpected events

As part of Digital Bangladesh Vision 2021, the Government of Bangladesh is making rapid advancements in digitizing its social safety net programs, such as the primary school stipend, old age allowances and allowances for persons with disabilities which is expanding financial access deeper into rural areas and into the hands of the most vulnerable households.

Inevitably, as more government-to-person transactions occur digitally, unbanked people will establish financial accounts and onboard to digital financial services ( DFS ), which are critical for closing the gender gap and increasing financial inclusion across the board.
