Making money online
With the rising accessibility of the internet, online platform usage in Bangladesh has been increasing...
The digital divide is not just a matter of access to the internet or electronic devices.
In an increasingly interconnected world, access to digital technology has become synonymous with access to opportunities, information, and essential services. However, the harsh reality remains that a stark digital divide persists, leaving billions of people on the wrong side of the digital revolution.
To ensure global equity and fairness, we must work relentlessly towards a world with zero digital divide. To that end, it is certainly encouraging to see Bangladesh being pro-active in addressing the issue, with Aspire to Innovate (a2i) and the ICT Division jointly launching a global campaign titled “Zero Digital Divide” with an aim to eradicate digital inequality globally.
What is more impressive to see is the ambition; Bangladesh is attempting to set up a global e-Quality centre, designed to ensure equitable access and participation in digital platforms worldwide. This tells us that Bangladesh is indeed serious about fixing the issue of digital divide and lead from the front.
The digital divide is not just a matter of access to the internet or electronic devices; it represents a profound inequity that exacerbates existing social, economic, and educational disparities. In a world where essential services, education, job opportunities, and even civic participation are increasingly reliant on digital platforms, leaving entire populations behind is unacceptable.
Governments, non-governmental organizations, and private sector stakeholders must collaborate to build the necessary infrastructure to connect remote and marginalized communities. Equally important is digital literacy. Access alone is insufficient; individuals must be equipped with the skills and knowledge to navigate the digital landscape effectively.
Bridging the digital divide is not just a matter of technology — it’s a matter of justice. A world with zero digital divide is essential to ensure equity and fairness. It’s a world where every individual, regardless of their location or socio-economic status, can fully participate in the opportunities and benefits of the digital age. It’s a world where no one is truly left behind.
